Burglary Safe Ratings: UL, TL, TRTL & TXTL Explained (2024)

In addition to other specifications all safes must meet the following minimum criteria to be considered for a UL rating:

Minimum weight of 750 lbs or anchor points for mounting.
Body constructed of minimum 1 inch thick steel or equivalent strength steel alloy (or other material).
Must have at least 1 of: UL Group 1, 1R, or 2M combination lock/ Type 1 high security electronic lock.
Steel and iron must be protected against corrosion.
Net working time of at least 5 minutes.
