The bassist for the Foo Fighters was (and still is) an AIDS denialist and apparently converted the rest of the band to his ideas for quite some time, from 2000 until probably 2008 or so. There are articles in 2007 saying Grohl himself said HIV doesn't cause AIDS, but by 2009 you see people saying the links to AIDS denialist websites on the Foo's pages had disappeared. That means they were AIDS denialists for several years. I don't begrudge people who still dislike them for what they did, they used their fame to push AIDS denialism.
That doesn't mean Ricky is doing the right thing, he's ridiculously ignorant and has actually become more stupid on purpose over the years, while most of the Foo Fighters seem to have learned and grown as people.
