Best Healthy Eateries in Amsterdam & Utrecht — Food of Mind (2024)

Oh Broei... my heart (or maybe my stomach) aches with longing whenever I think of this place. The music, the atmosphere, the service and the food. It is utter perfection.Broei is a beaut vegetarian restaurant, cafe and workplace nestled by a quiet canal in Utrecht, away from the crowds of the central old town. It was my favourite place to curl up on a rainy day with free wifi, a glass of fresh mint tea and cool vibes (you literally can curl up because they have mats in a secluded corner amongst old books and a record player).You can opt for a group table outside, a stool at the bar or a handy working table complete with power cords hanging from the ceiling. The playlist is sublime (I still listen to their Spotify playlist when I need a little nostalgia) and the staff are super chill and obliging.If they weren’t giving me information for my blog,they were offering samples of their soup to help me decide what to have for lunch. The food is tasty, affordable and mainly locally sourced. They even bake their own bread using local grains. I ate here multiple times (When I say multiple, I mean almost every day)while I was staying in Utrecht and if I ever visit again Broei will definitely be my first port of call.

CT Coffee and Coconuts is a fascinating restaurant in the 'de Pijp' district of Amsterdam situated inside a converted 1920s cinema. Complete with mezzanine floors, slouchy linen couches and brick walls, this triple-level eatery is a design-lovers dream where bare-feet are very much allowed. For those like myself who avoid dairy, Coffee & Coconuts provides a host of delish dairy-free options such as iced coconut coffee (funny that) and incredible whole-food recipes which pride themselves on being mostly organic and locally sourced. I also have to say, the staff are brilliant. One is even a talented artist and you can find some of his amazing work scattered around the walls.

Benji's is an exotic cafe that turns brunch into an indoor jungle experience. The interior is spacious and overflowing with amazing plants and natural light which floods through the large windows.The Eggstraordinary Bowl was super satisfying and my almond milk coffee rivalled even New Zealand's baristas (which is no easy feat). From granola bowls to mashed avocado, you won't struggle to find something healthy and delicious here.

We stumbled across this little specialty grocery store on a street corner in central Amsterdam. It was the perfect place to satisfy our sugar cravings when we were still trying to eat clean while we travelled. Their little raw cheesecakes are divine! Some are even sprinkled with dried flower petal 'confetti'. A gorgeous place to find while wandering through the beautiful Jordaan area of Amsterdam.

Such a handy little supermarket PACKED with healthy 100% organic goodies. Perfect for stocking up or grabbing a healthy snack on the run such as dried fruit or homemade baking.

I adored this little market in the Jordaan district of Amsterdam that's packed with fresh produce (plenty of which is organic) and other amazing healthy things such as REAL hot chocolate. Open Saturdays and Mondays.

KEEK Organic Eatery: Specialises in food that is organic and local.I'll never forget the delicious hot apple chai cider I savoured after getting caught in a downpour in Utrecht.
